There is no question that kids love toys. They consider their toys their favourite thing in the world. No matter what kind of toy it, whether it’s a stuffed toy or a doll, they feel like they can’t live without their toys.

More than just fun or games, toys are also an instrument in helping the kids discover the world they live in. Most toys provide a great opportunity to learn. There are toys that encourage children to interact with others. Some also spark their imagination while there are toys that engage the kid’s senses. Toys provide enjoyment and happiness to the child which can help them build their self-esteem.

Giving toys to children to play with has a lot of benefits. 

Motor skills

Toys play a big role in making the child engage in physical activity. Through playing, they are able to exercise their fine and gross motor skills. Toys such as ball, tricycle or toy cars can strengthen the child’s arms and legs and boost their physiognomy which is the gross motor skills. Toys such as dolls and colouring sets can develop their sense of touch and make the child move their hands and fingers which are the fine motor skills. When children play, they are being physically active thus avoiding obesity which is common in kids nowadays.

Through playing, they’ll be able to find balance and coordination. Even in babies, toys help motivate a baby to use their hands and feet in order to discover or touch something. Toys encourage babies to be on the move especially when they begin crawling and know how to sit. Once they see their toys, babies will use their muscles to try to reach and grab their toys. Developing their motor skills is crucial since they’ll be using it throughout their life.

Social development

Toys teach children social skills so they will have a better understanding of their community and society. When they play, they are invited to interact with other children or even adults. Playing with other children may be a simple act but it’s the best opportunity for them to experience certain situations and learn the value of respect, cooperation and sharing which are important lessons in life. By playing with others, they are motivated to get better, learn to negotiate, take initiative or leadership. They will be able to learn teamwork and be patient while boosting their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Playing helps children to socialise especially nowadays when most kids are surrounded by gadgets. It helps them interact with others, make new friends and develop a positive attitude in the long run. Playing with other children will help them develop their communication skills.

Problem-solving

There are many experts who advocate playtime for children because it plays an integral part in developing their problem-solving skills. While it’s easy for adults to resolve problems and move on, children find it difficult. This is why they need to develop their problem-solving skills gradually over time. When children play, they become experimenters and investigators. Even nature-based activities like digging and making mud pies present different challenges and engagement which teach children problem-solving

Blocks and puzzles are great toys to develop the problem-solving skills of the kids. These encourage kids to think outside of the box which is an essential life skill that they can benefit from even when they become adults. They can use their creativity while solving problems and be able to make an enjoyable activity. To be able to solve a problem makes them happier and give them a sense of independence. 

Emotional development

Aside from boosting creativity, toys also help children to express their emotions and what they think about something. With the use of dolls, stuffed animals, or costumes, they are given the chance to create familiar situations such as house play, a visit to a hospital or a time on the farm. They can even create their own imaginary world full of fantasy that leads children to abstraction such as being heroes, being in space or living underwater. Toys help in building their capacity to project a mature personality and make their own rules.

While adults view toys as something displayed at a store, children see toys as an important tool in their playing. And these tools teach children in their decision making as they develop their imagination while creating a unique world they can play in.

Cognitive development

Cognitive development in kids involves thinking skills. Playing with toys provides an opportunity for children to practice different thinking skills and process information to understand how something works. Toys help them stimulate their concentration and memory skills. Fidget toys, for example, help young children’s ability to focus. Many experts said that playing with fidget toys can actually enhance learning.

Children are naturally curious. When they are presented with toys, they will show eagerness to learn something new. It gives them the ability to discover new things and solve problems in creative ways

Traditionally, the mother was granted custody of the children because she was the primary caregiver in the case of a divorce. Unless the father actively pursued custody and could prove that the mother was unfit, custody would go to the mother. However, much has changed since then where mothers are as likely to work or have a career as fathers, and in some cases, fathers have assumed the role of primary caregiver.

In most cases, the court prefers to grant joint custody where both parents retain their full parental rights and share custody of the children equally. Sole custody granted to one parent only in cases where there is evidence that the other parent is unable to provide care for a child. Where the parent has been proven to be abusive to the child, abuse substances in some way or is in some other way, an unfit parent.

In the case of a separation where one spouse leaves the marital home, both parents retain custody and their full parental rights and responsibilities. For example, if a mother leaves her husband and takes the children with her. The father still retains, right to visitation and contact with the children as well as the responsibility to keep supporting his children. The same applies to a spouse who leaves the family, but the children remain in the marital home with the other parent.

Usually, no formal agreement put in place at this time as to how visitation and contact with the children will be divided during the separation. However, an agreement can be put in place if necessary. For example, in the case where one parent is deemed to be unfit, the court can be approached to grant a protection order to prevent an abusive parent from contacting the children. Alternatively, supervised visitation can be arranged. It is important to note that physical possession of the children during an informal separation does not denote custody. In other words, the parent that the child or children are residing with does not automatically have custody of the children. Either parent, whether they have physical possession of the children or not, can petition the court for custody at any time during the separation.

In the event of a petition to the court, the court will use much the same factors to decide custody as those used in divorce which is what would be in the best interests of the children. In most cases, the court will once again prefer to grant joint custody to both parents rather than to one parent. Proof that one parent is unfit will be necessary in most cases for sole custody granted to one parent.

Afterward, the children are left to play freely with the material. All in a safe, controlled and accompanied way.

The sessions end with a return to calm, a few minutes of relaxation to acquire standard heart rate, respiratory control.
